Environmental Commission
The Medford Lakes Environmental Commission was established by Borough Ordinance 151 on January 25, 1979. The role of environmental commission is to make recommendations to borough council and planning board concerning proposed Land Use within the borough. The environmental commission also has roles related to identifying environmental resources, advises on public health matters and provides community education.
As Medford Lakes Borough has long been nearly fully built out with little open space for new development, the focus of the Medford Lakes Environmental Commission (MLEC) is upon community education and developing recommendations to Borough on matters related to environmental and sustainability issues, which have included rain gardens and roadside drainage on borough roads. Some community education items have involved residential rain gardens, rain barrels, and native and non-invasive planting. See the links below for additional information on various topic areas.
The Commission meets quarterly at 7:30 pm at Oaks Hall on the fourth Tuesday of February, May, September and November.
